Risk Tolerance Scale

Now What?

We cannot grow in our risk capacity if we do not know our risk tolerance.
— Anna Hampton

You just completed the Risk Tolerance Inventory, and should have immediately received your individual Risk Tolerance Score result along with the following PDF sent to your email: RTI Report.

If you score as a Thoughtful Architect, ask:

How might the Lord be leading you to move toward strategic Kingdom risk as an act of worship of Him in this risk?

If you score as a Pragmatic Strategist ask:

How might the Lord be inviting you to rely less on calculations and more on discernment of the Holy Spirit in your risk decision making?

If you score as a Confident Visionary, ask:

How might the Lord be asking you to invite others to join you in risk, and risk at a pace that others can follow?

If you score as a Audacious Pioneer, ask:

How can you refine your risk approach to more strategically, shrewdly, and effectively enter risk as worship?

Risk Literacy - the basic attitudes, knowledge, and skills to assess various witness risks and mitigate them based on a mature discernment of Holy Spirit-led stewardship. In what ways do you need to grow in knowledge, skills, and attitudes to become risk literate and develop towards risk shrewdness? This growth will at the same time change your risk capacity in line with the Lord’s specific calling on your life.

Prayerfully consider what you need to do next to develop your risk literacy and risk capacity. Most beneficial would be to meet with someone who understands the risk environment and is able to coach you to and through your next steps. Also, consider some of the suggestions below.

  1. Risk Myths - dialogue in community about your default approach to risk and listen to others on your team or in your organization.

  2. Read Facing Danger: A Guide Through Risk 2nd Ed and Facing Fear: The Journey to Mature Courage in Risk and Persecution (also available in paper and e-book format on Amazon) to increase your risk management knowledge and competencies

  3. RAM Workshops - these are offered in person, via Zoom, and the asynchronous online course will be available later in 2025. Check the RAM Training schedule.

  4. Check the Global Risk Resource List for other security trainings (Stress inoculation training is highly recommended), recommended books, and people care recommended.

  5. Look through the Risk Resource page for additional resources you may want to access.

  6. Contact us for consulting on your risk literacy plan, whether individual, team, or organizational.

  7. Consider what discipleship steps you may need to take to prepare to be antifragile in danger and persecution.

  8. Sign up for the upcoming Masterclass on Shrewdness (Feb 2025 - May 2025).

For Further Research:

The RTI is in beta form. To our knowledge, this is the only tool attempting to collect information on how Christo-centric faith impacts risk tolerance and risk aversion. We are collecting the data, but welcome researchers who want to improve the tool. We invite PhD students and researchers who would like to refine the tool to include the Five-Factor Model of Personality Traits, although these are touched on implicitly in the present form of the tool (neuroticism, openness, agreeableness, extraversion, conscientiousness) to contact us.
