Be Strong & Courageous

Be Strong & Courageous, Spoken Word by Amena Brown Owen

(Watch to the end)

Therefore since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses:

Women.

Who walked with God and walked before us

Women whose feet beat paths and paved roads for the

Women who came after them

Who bore children and carried crosses.

Who carried hopes and prayers and dreams

For them, life was a womb

A place to carry calling, until it's ready to be born.

We've heard the songs

We've heard the sermons and the messages

We've seen the glimpse of what God can do

But what will we do?

How will we take the words we've heard,

Give them bones, muscles, feet,

Until they seep not only into the words we speak

But into the lives we live

We want to be women

Who, in the face of evil, refuse to be polite

Women who will not be silenced by injustice

Women who will pace and pray

For their neighbors and family and country and world

Women who will bind up the wounds of the sick

Women who will dig our hands in the dirt and build wells.

Who will love, and accept, and be ourselves

God is saying to us, the same thing he said to Mary, and Abraham, and Mary Magdalene, and Hagar, and Moses, and Joshua,

Do not be afraid, Be strong, and courageous.

Do not be afraid, Be strong and courageous.

Do not be afraid, Be strong and courageous.

When you lead and when you work,

When you love

When you care,

When life seems like too much to bear

When you write, speak, create

When you have to wait,

When you wanna cuss

When it's hard to trust,

When God tells you to start, and begin, and move and

When he says stay, and finish, and plant roots.

When you reject the lie and speak the truth

When your fear yells so loudly that it's difficult to think

When you need to ask for help

When the calling of God beats quick in your chest

When the answer is no, when all the doors close

Be strong, and Courageous.

Be strong, and Courageous.

Because God is with you.

Because there is no obstacle, difficulty, challenge, pain, fear, failure, disease

That is bigger than Him

Because if God is with us, now is not the time to worry about what other people think

If God is with us now is not the time to be worried about how unworthy or how inadequate you feel

If God is with us, we have to remember that we walk with Him.

In His strength, through His suffering, full of His courage,

So cast aside the lies that wanna weave themselves around your ankles, and attempt to trip you up.

Get rid of that weight that lays so heavy on your lungs.

Walk and dance and lead and run

Just remember the One

The One who calls us, and saves us, and loves us, and leads us

Do not be afraid, Be strong and courageous

Do not be afraid, Be strong and courageous

Do not be afraid, Be strong, and courageous.
