Risk is often confusing, chaotic, uncertain. It is difficult to see real reality in the myriads of threats. Neal and I often aid global workers who suddenly find themselves in situations where they are facing danger and risk and are unsure of how to decide what to do.

I think of the doctors in a S. American country, experience road blockages by gangs, not able to get food supplies to feed their children while they served in their mission hospital. We were able to help them identify their real threshhold for evacuation, and how to withdraw if necessary. We coached them through a process of discerning their calling to serve the people and the hospital and how to provide for their children’s psychological and emotional needs in a higher risk situation.

Regularly we provide care for global workers in closed access countries who wonder how to ethically manage their humanitarian work and discipleship under intense scrutiny.
